 Folk art has been a tradition throughout the world; it is referred to as naďve in Europe and peasant painting in England. After the War of 1812, Folk Art in America became strongly focused on pride and patriotism of this country and has blossomed ever since. Folk art is portrayed as the art of the people, by the people, and for the people, because it’s the art that portrays America. I am an American folk artist, just like folk artists of earlier centuries; my paintings are strongly based on narrative, very symbolic and represent highly abstract forms. The majority of my work portrays the American landscape with a strong sense of color, patriotism and locale. Humor also plays a very large part in the understanding of my folk art in such pieces as “Mermaid 10K Today.” |

| I wrote and illustrated the book “Doggie Tails with Alex and Andria in Alexandria,” it is a great story that will make for a perfect gift for children. My book allows me to express my creativity not only through the story but with my paintings. My book reflects the experiences that canines have in the city of Alexandria. I really enjoy writing children’s books; I will have many more to add in the near future to my collection and your children’s collection. It is an endearing story of a feisty Scotty named "Alex" and his sweet little sister "Andria" who take the reader on an adventurous exploration of the charming city of Alexandria, VA. Go along with these little Scotties to all of the events that make Alexandria special. They are really scared on the ghost tours, have fun at the annual Waterfront Festival, win ribbons at the St. Patrick's Day Dog Show and march in the Scottish Walk wearing their kilts.
